Styles of music videos

Performance: 

Lady Gaga- Judas  






                                                                               

A performance video focuses on showing footage of the artist or band either in a casual environment e.g socialising with friends, or performing, live performance or staged performance. This style of video uses the band/artist/group throughout the majority of the production and the artist, band members are often miming the words to the song. The genre of music where performance videos are common is indie and rock. 
A performance style music video is one of fast pace, and it looks as if its not being performed as a music video but it is being performed as if it were on a stage. The reason why this music video has aspects of a performance style video is because there are many parts in the video where she is singing and dancing as she would on a stage. Many of Lady Gagas videos are done in this way, as it makes it interesting to watch as there is a lot going on.

Narrative: 

Taylor swift- love story 

This style relies on imagery to produce a story for the audience to follow and some narrative videos include clips from films that the song has been featured in. This seems to be used a lot in slower songs, and often tend to be love stories. The reason why I have chosen this music video to be a narrative is because the video isn't just about the song it is about what happens in relation to the lyrics being sung. A narrative music video is telling a story of the song. for example in this video it is meant to be romeo and Juliet and Taylor swift is Juliet and she isn't allowed to be with romeo etc...  narrative style music videos are found in songs for a younger target audience as it helps engage them into the song.

Conceptual:
Bruno mars- The lazy song 

Concept videos are based around a single idea or concept and are usually unusual and obscure, even surreal for the audience. This unusual content is an attraction to many consumers, which draws them in. Concept videos usually are combined with one of the other two styles as the market demands for greater accessibly rather than the somewhat niche that is pure concept art. A successful concept video will keep the audience entertained and constantly looking at what or who is on the screen. No particular genre or type of music is more likely to use concept videos, in fact a range of artists covering all genres have used concept/ art based videos. This music video of Bruno Mars is conceptual as it is simple and it is following the lyrics and he is in front of the camera.
